The Story of Missie von Lubbe
In Europe, 1937 Missie's popularity as a designer of fine jewellery was blooming. She was beautiful and very young, and had an increasing following for her astounding hats and beautiful jewellery.
Although Missie was a Milner of some repute she was sought after by the Chapaliers of France to model their finest hats. She lived in Paris for several years.
When war was imminent she left her native homeland of Austria and headed to America.
From America she sailed with friends on a private Schooner to the South Pacific, stopping in Tahiti, Tonga and Samoa before landing in Sydney in 1941.
Missie gathered South Seas pearls in Tahiti and dazzled the local Sydney society with beautiful black coloured pearls, rarely seen before. She designed and made jewellery using coloured stones, pearls and gold. The pieces were highly sought after by the local social set and she was able to grace them with both beautiful hats, gowns and jewellery.
After spending some years in Sydney the newly married Missie set sail again, this time for New Zealand where she settled.
Although she made and sold beautiful jewellery and amazing hats in New Zealand, life there was not as glamorous and daring as the life she had led on the Continent. She had a loyal band of followers and led a somewhat Bohemian life doing what she loved, making hats and fine jewellery. In a delightful twist, she took a steamer back to Europe in the early '50's, where she lived out her life on Rue Moffetard.
We have created the Missie von Lubbe Range of jewellery using some of the colours and stones she loved so much.
We take great pride in ensuring each piece is made perfectly.
In keeping with the legend of Missie von Lubbe we limit the number of pieces we make therefore keeping the jewellery the exclusive beautiful pieces that she loved so much.
